In addition they invite local organizations out to educate children and their families how to avoid unsafe situations. August 15 Hendersonville Arts Council presents a Summer Jazz Concert from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring Deep Grooves Steel Drum Band. The event is free of charge and is located at Historic Monthaven, 1154 West Main Street. August 19 The inaugural meeting of the Sunset Rotary is at 5:30 p.m. at the Black-Eyed Pea. August 19 The Hendersonville AARP Chapter #4443 meets from 1:00 - 2:45 at the Hendersonville Senior Center 223 Campus Drive. The guest speaker will be Dr. Ming Wang, Director of the Wang Vision Cataract & Lasik Center. The general meeting and eye care seminar are open to anyone 50+, whether or not a member of AARP, and their families. The seminar entitled “Forever Young - Nutrition, Eye Care, and New Surgeries to Reverse Aging,” will cover topics including nutrition, macular degeneration, cataracts, and age-related loss of near vision. He will also be talking about the Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration (501C(3) charity) and their fund-raising event, the Eye Ball. From Darkness to Sight to be held on October 16, at 5:30 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. August 19, 20 Marty Nelson, Sumner County Trustee will have representatives at Goodlettsville City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the purpose of taking Tax Freeze applications. Senior citizens (65 years and older) who make a combined household income (including Social Security) of not more than $33,860 can make application. Applicants are encouraged to call the Trustee’s office, 452-1260, for a list of paperwork that is required for application. August 21 The third annual “Run for the Fallen” for those who have sacrificed their lives in recent conflicts with ties to Sumner County, will be held at 7:00 a.m., at the Streets of Indian Lake. After a brief ceremoney, the run will be approximately 3.5 miles along Saundersville Rd., with memorials placed along the route. The public is invited to attend. For those desiring to run, a $12 fee is required, which includes a memorial t-shirt while the supply last. Registration is available online at www.active.com, or via mail to the address shown on www.hendersonvillerunningclub.org, or at the event. This is not a race. August 7 Good Shepherd United Methodist Church is hosting the inter-denominational ONE WAY STREET REGIONAL PUPPETRY TRAINING FESTIVAL, an event open to anyone interested in learning the art of puppetry. This is perfect for youth leaders, children’s ministry leaders, teachers, homeschool educators, ministry teams, and church workers. Distances for ages 7 - 10 are 50 yard pool swim, 2 mile bike, and 1 mile run. Ages 11 - 15 are 100 yard pool swim, 4 mile bike, and 2 mile run. Registration is $25 and includes t-shirt, finisher medal, and up to 4 training sessions on Sunday afternoons. USAT sanctioned. Race is capped at 200, no race day registrations. July 24 Spay-ghetti Dinner Fundraiser, to benefit Sumner County Low Cost Spay & Neuter Cinic is from 5 to 8 p.m. at Our Place Cafe, 247 West Main.Tickets are $10 and includes spay-ghetti, salad, break, drinks and Tiramisu. Music is by jazz ensemble “The Celsius Quarter”. July 29 Hendersonville Medical Center will host a blood drive from 7 a.m. to noon in the Learning Resource Center. While walk ins will be accepted, appointments are encouraged and will take precedence. Appointments can be made online at RedCross.org and enter sponsor code HendersonvilleMC.
