Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Sumner County Director of Schools Dr. Del R. Phillips III announced Thursday that Craig Clayton will join the staff at Sumner County Schools as the district's new Assistant Director for Information Services.

Clayton began his career as a systems engineer at the Crittenden County School District in

Kentucky and has since spent the last 10 years serving in various IT management positions.

A native of western Kentucky, Clayton graduated from Murray State University with a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Systems Management.

Clayton most recently served as the Chief Technology Officer at AmeriFlex, a health benefits

administrator. Before that, he held the position of Director of Information Technology for the

healthcare division of First Horizon. He has also served as an information security consultant in the financial services industry, giving him additional experience in information security, infrastructure design, and e-commerce.

“I am very excited to come onboard with a school district that is making improving its technology infrastructure such a priority,” Clayton said. “I am very eager to start finding ways to help our teachers integrate technology into the classroom. It is vital we prepare the students of Sumner County to become 21st century learners.”

Dr. Phillips said he was pleased to find someone with such extensive experience to lead the district’s technology expansion program.

“As a district, we want to make every effort to ensure that our students and teachers have technology that enhances the learning process. Our classroom technology and content delivery should reflect the needs of the digital learner as we move into the future,” Dr. Phillips said.
