Clarence Reed Long age 64, passed away August 2, 2012 in the arms of his loving wife. He was born December 11, 1947 to Eldon and Maxine Long. He served as a police officer and later as an electrician. He was a man of faith and believed in the golden rule. “Do unto others as you would have done to you” and lived by those words. He loved cars, Nascar and especially his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sue (Davis) Long; son, Chris Long (Christy); grandchildren, Tyler, Chase, and Jessica; sisters, Regina Bransford (Bobby), Rhonda Snyder; brothers, Roger Long (Aulene) and Randy Long (Karen). A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, August, 4, 2012 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home with Bobby Bransford officiating.Marion Murphy Legler age 80, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully August 8, 2012 at Alive Hospice, Patterson Street, Nashville. Born August 6, 1932 in Knoxville, to the late Rhea Oscar and Elizabeth Cumming Murphy, she grew up in East Nashville until 1962 when she married her childhood friend and neighbor, Eugene Legler, Jr. She is survived by her two children, Eugene “Trey” Legler, III (Sandy), and Amelia Lynn Legler Lancaster (Mike). She was employed with Genesco until the birth of their first child in 1965 and later worked as a substitute teacher at several Hendersonville elementary schools for over 10 years. She actively served in the choir and was married at East End United Methodist Church in Nashville. She joined First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, where she faithfully served as church pianist for more than 25 years. She was a member of the Follower’s Sunday School Class, where she met many of her close friends. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A life celebration service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, August 12 in the Chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home with Reverend Don Hutchinson and Reverend Ben Alexander officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Nashville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, 217 E. Main Street, Hendersonville, TN 37075 or Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203. Martha Warren Gaines age 83, of Hendersonville, passed away August 5, 2012. Mrs. Gaines was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville and a 1948 Graduate of Litton High School. She and her loving husband of 60 years, Walter Clay Gaines, Sr., was the first couple to marry in the Inglewood Baptist Church. Mrs. Gaines was a world traveler and loved to sew Christmas ornaments for the grandchildren each year. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Mrs. Gaines is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Clay Gaines, Sr. and is survived by her children, Barbara Halcomb (Rick), Clay Gaines (Linda), Winston Gaines (Linda); brother, George Warren (Dorothy); grandchildren, Nicole Pittman (Rob), Trent Halcomb (Meghan), Wesley Gaines (Jamie), Lindsey Gaines, Sarah Gaines; great-grandchildren, Kate and Caroline Pittman, Samuel Gaines, Shelby Halcomb and Charlotte Gaines. A Life Celebration Service was held Wednesday, August 8, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home. Interment followed at Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers included Trent Halcomb, Wesley Gaines, Rob Pittman, Tommy Warren, Stan and Rick Warren. Honorary pallbearers were Nicole Pittman, Lindsey Gaines, Sarah Gaines, Kate Pittman, Caroline Pittman, Samuel Gaines, Shelby Halcomb and Charlotte Gaines. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville and The Memorial Foundation, 100 Bluegrass Commons Blvd, # 320, Hendersonville, TN 37075 in Memory of Mrs. Gaines. Betty Jean Waller age 83, of Hendersonville, went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2012. She enjoyed dancing, horses and painting. She was a good Christian woman who loved her Lord and was known for her purple. She was an active member of Hendersonville Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert D. and Lula Belle Hickerson; husband, Frank L. Waller, Sr.; brother, Albert Hickerson. She is survived by her son, Frank L. Waller, Jr. (Deborah); grandchildren, Preston Waller and Caitlin Waller. A Life Celebration was held 1 p.m. Monday at Hendersonville Funeral Home with Pastor Kelly Campbell officiating. Burial followed at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. |
