Animal control article unfair PDF Print E-mail

Re: Animal Control still a hot topic in Sumner County, 2/8/12

I was disappointed in the article published on 2/8 and feel it was not a true representation of what happened in the Emergency Services meeting. Even though it was not on the agenda, Chairman Jim Vaughn was gracious enough to allow some of the animal representatives in the audience to voice our concerns regarding animal control issues. I felt the talks by both Diana Townsend and myself was presented in a positive and constructive manner, both expressing the concerns of not just ourselves but of the animal community. Several Commissioners voluntarily made themselves available for further discussion after the meeting adjourned.

Romney would be disastrous for nation PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, January 19, 2012

Dear Editor;

My fellow Americans: Let us be neither coy, nor aloof; if ex-Gov. Mitt Romney is elected our next Commander in Chief, for all intents and purposes, we are very likely to enter a future of dramatic and toxic change. Not that of the Obama psyche; everyone is, as few do. No.

A far more sinister plot awaits all but the most prominent; expect from this cold, uncaring and deceitful individual a lowered corporate tax, increased job losses to foreign lands, sharply reduced/modified Social Security payouts, Medicare Parts A and B cuts, security, education slashes. Drastically lower government expenditures, across the board. Sound ‘good’? Not so fast!

Habitat for Humanity thanks community PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, January 12, 2012

Dear Editor,

In 2011, Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County built three new homes and remodeled one home. We have been very fortunate to have great churches, individuals, contractors, corporations, board members, and staff members participate in this great work.

We want to recognize their efforts and let everyone know about our mission in Sumner County. Even though our donations were down last year, we were able to build four new homes with grants, donations, and gifts-in-kind that appraised for over $450,000. We helped 18 family members and put four new homes on the city tax rolls. The new home owners benefit, the city and county tax rolls benefit, and we, as Americans and Christians, benefit from the accomplishment of our mission to eradicate bad housing one house at a time.

We are not a government agency and we do not get government funds to build these homes. If you would like to donate or volunteer to help build the next four houses in 2012, please call the office at 452-9606 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Iowa Caucus almost upon us PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, December 28, 2011

Dear Editor,

The Iowan Caucus’ are nearly upon us. We’ve had, to date, a full dozen G.O.P. debates. The field has gelled into a credible number of five. Several have been shed, for various reasons. Without stating ‘particulars’, this is great news to all, or should be. A grueling pace produces, usually, more qualified candidates. This year was no exception.

With but one week until Iowa voting three top contenders emerge. Any may take honors; perhaps, none, in such a liquidious environment. A major miscalculation would be to elect based solely on perceived ability to defeat O’Bama. Too much is at stake for such folly.

Let us choose the most knowledgeable man and support him throughout the process. Discard radical and illogical thinking. Embrace courage of thought and speech, whilst casting away lunacy. Consider the demeanor and body language. The eye-to-eye contact, the sincere, even tone of voice, quick concise replies. Opt for those who show enthusiasm, ability to adapt to changes. A quick rhetorical demeanor.

Above 20 trillion by January 2013. America can ill afford 30 trillion by January 2017. The acute bleeding must stop Jan. 20, 2013.

Personally, I want an ‘electee’ who can, and will, go eye-to-eye with a national disaster. Barack H. O’Bama. Personal courage, not self-servitude, should and must prevail.

Communism behind ACLU victory PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Once again the ACLU wins another victory over the majority of our population with our elected and appointed officials bowing down to their ridiculous demands for separation of Church and State.

There is no real separation in the law of our land (known as the Constitution) as Jay Seculow (sp) and his legal defense team has proven time and again. We stand by idly while this Communist driven group of legal teams continues to chip away at the very foundation of our culture.

Regardless of your religious beliefs at some point in time we could become a secular nation and there'll be no turning back to what made us what we are. At 70 plus years of age, my age group saw this start to develop when we learned the Communist were driving and financing a lot of the rebellion against the Vietnam war. They gained a foot hold in our youth, who are now teaching in many of our education institutions, and representing us at local, state and federal levels that we place in charge through our votes.

One simply has to look around and see the result of what’s developed. If you were ever afraid of what we’ve become, now would be the time to give it some thought about taking it back come November 2012. That month and year will decide, once and for all, what we will become as a nation and people.
