GLADEVILLE — The third time was not the charm for the Lady Bison of Station Camp. For the third straight year, they fell to Mt. Juliet in the District 9-AAA Tournament championship game. Monday night, it was a 57-32 defeat the Lady Bears handed the Lady Bison. Station Camp (18-10) had already secured a berth in this week’s Region 5-AAA Tournament with its first-round victory over Portland, and it will play host to District 10-AAA’s Dickson County Friday night. The Lady Cougars were 57-41 winners over Kenwood in the 10-AAA consolation game Monday night, giving Dickson County the No. 3 seed and Kenwood the No. 4 seed. Kenwood will travel to No. 1 seed Mt. Juliet Friday. Beech (19-12) closed its District 9-AAA Tournament with a victory — defeating the host Wilson Central Lady Wildcats 45-38 in the 9-AAA consolation final. With the win, the Lady Buccaneers will travel to Rossview Friday night, while Wilson Central will travel to Clarksville, which gained the 10-AAA title after a 64-29 victory against Rossview Monday night. As for Monday night in Gladeville, the Lady Bison hung with Mt. Juliet for the better part of the first quarter before the Lady Bears pulled away. Station Camp trailed 15-10 after one quarter, it was 21-13 a minute and a half later, 30-18 by the half and the rout was on. “Finishing second three years in a row to Mt. Juliet definitely gets old,” Station Camp coach Kendra Jackson said. “You’ve got to move on from this game and you have a short memory and figure out a way to get prepared for Friday.” Cheyenne North led the Lady Bison with 11 points, while Janasia Williams had 10 as the only two in double figures. North, Williams and Kia Perry were all named All District 9-AAA. While the Lady Bison had the motivation of trying to defeat Mt. Juliet to finally capture a 9-AAA title, the Lady Buccaneers had the motivation of not wanting to play the 10-AAA champion Clarksville. And the Lady Buccaneers did that with their second win of the season over Wilson Central on its own floor — they defeated the Lady Wildcats 46-31 on Jan. 24. “Clarksville is really, really good,” Beech sophomore Falon Baker said of a Clarksville team that Beech lost 71-37 to in a Hall of Fame game this season. “They have a bunch of Division I players — all of them are really good. They’re all around just a great team.” So avoiding Clarksville for as long as possible was a motivator, plus, the ability to have a win going into the region tournament is a big plus. “It was pretty important to go in with a win,” Baker said. “This gives us a lot of momentum going into it.” Beech opened up with a 7-2 lead after one quarter against Wilson Central and took a 19-15 lead into the half. A 26-23 second half advantage was enough to hold the Lady Wildcats at bay. Alex Banks led the Lady Bucs with 15 points, while McKenna Taylor and Baker scored 13 and 11. Taylor and Baker were named All-District 9-AAA as well. Now it’s on to the boys’ side, and Sumner County is guaranteed to come away with a champion Tuesday night. No. 3-seeded Beech (23-6) will take on rival and fifth-seeded Hendersonville (18-11). The two teams split the series this season — Hendersonville winning the last meeting (Jan. 27) 71-55 and Beech winning the first meeting (Jan. 3) 54-50. No. 1 Mt. Juliet and No. 2 Wilson Central will face off in the consolation final. On the 10-AAA side, top-seeded Clarksville Northeast and Kentucky signee Alex Poythress will take on Dickson County while Clarksville and Kenwood will play in the consolation final. — By Corby A.
