Spring Fling update: Beech doubles duo fall in semifinals PDF Print E-mail

0525 Beech Tennis CarelliMURFREESBORO – Joseph Daniels and Seth Carelli gave Sumner County its lone tennis victory Thursday during the TSSAA Class AAA tennis tournament at Old Fort Park.

The Beech duo were 6-1, 6-3 winners over Houston’s duo of Billy Fickle and Michael Hoff in Thursday morning’s quarterfinal matchup.

The juniors followed up with a tough three-set loss to Tennessee High’s Matt Henson and Seth Buckmaster in the semifinal round.

Tenessee High won the first set 6-2; Beech bounced back with a 6-3 win and the Bristol school closed out the victory with a 6-4 win in the third set.

They will now face Knoxville West’s Steven Patrick and Harrison Smith. The senior duo defeated Siegel 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and advanced to the finals with a three-set win of their own over Brentwood (3-6, 6-2, 6-3).

Pope John Paul II junior Andy Druffel lost in his quarterfinals match Thursday morning.

Memphis University School sophomore Walker Simms scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the match. Simms then went on to win his semifinals match over East/Middle Region's top-seeded Anderson Scarpa of Baylor by the same score. Simms will play MBA's Palmer Campbell, who also upset a top seed (Marshall Sharp of MUS, 6-4, 6-3), in Friday's finals.
