Knocking down 11-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter helped Beech keep visiting Dickson County at bay Monday night and secure a trip to both the region finals and a sectional game for the first time in 10 years.
Beech was a 60-56 winner in a Region 5-AAA quarterfinal game and moves on to Wednesday night’s region final against Mt. Juliet. The Bearettes were 43-36 winners against Wilson County and District 9 rival Lebanon in the other region semifinal.
Beech’s win means it will move on to the region finals and the sectional round for the first time since coach Kari Douglas (Maddox) was a senior on the 2003 squad.

The Region 5-AAA Tournament is down to its semifinal round, which will be held at Beech this year. Beech's girls and Hendersonville boys are the two local teams to advance to this year's semifinals. It is the first time for the Hendersonville boys since 2004 and the first trip for the Lady Bucs since 2010.
A win in the region semifinals not only advances the winner to the finals but also secures a spot in a sectional game; a victory there sends the winner to the TSSAA Class AAA Tournament at MTSU's Murphy Center.
Beech's girls tip off the region semifinals against Dickson County on Monday at 6 p.m.; Mt. Juliet and Lebanon follow at 7:45. On Tuesday, Dickson County and Henry County boys tip at 6 followed by Hendersonville and Wilson Central.

Commandos on to first region semifinal since 2004 |

CLARKSVILLE — A third-quarter comeback sparked a road win for Hendersonville Saturday night and allowed the Commandos to accomplish two rare feats.
First and foremost was a 48-43 victory in their Region 5-AAA Tournament quarterfinal game at Kenwood. With that win came Hendersonville’s first trip to the region semifinals since 2004. It also handed a Knights’ team, which was 12-0 at home until Tuesday, its second straight home defeat.
“That was a big win for us. They’re well coached, unbelievably athletic and to play them at their place and play at the level we were able to, it was definitely a big win for us,” Hendersonville coach Kerry West said.
With the victory, Hendersonville (21-6) moves on to the region semifinals Tuesday night. The Commandos will face a familiar foe as they take on District 9-AAA rival Wilson Central in a 7:45 p.m. game at Beech. Wilson Central was a 74-47 winner against visiting Rossview. District 10 rivals Dickson County and Henry County will meet in Tuesday’s 6 p.m. semifinal at Beech. Dickson County was a 73-65 winner against visiting Mt. Juliet; Henry County was a 62-59 overtime winner at Station Camp and advances to its first region semis since 2003.
