The SCDP is hosting Mary Mancini, Executive Director of Tennessee Citizen Action, 9:30 a.m. at a voting celebration breakfast.  In addition to celebrating the first week of early voting in the Democratic presidential primary, Mancini will go over the discriminatory voter disenfranchisement law passed last year, which has now gone into effect.  She will also share her combined efforts with other organizations and legislators to repeal the law.  The breakfast takes place at the Gallatin Public Library.  All are welcome.

CARNIVAL IN PORTLAND:  Open to the public!  Free ticket given to new faces! Enjoy food, games and fun at the Highland Elementary School Carnival at 6:30 p.m. in the Highland Elementary Gym. Sumner County CASA’s 6th annual dodge ball event is just around the corner. The location is at Volunteer State Community College from 2-6 p.m. The tournament will be held for ages 18+. The whole family is invited to an evening of fun at Skate Zone (next to College Heights Baptist Church) from 5 until 8 p.m. Support Adoption Foundation’s (SAF) Skate Party will be a night of roller skating, pizza, and soda in support of the Taylor Family of Hendersonville, who is adopting a little girl from China. All of SAF’s unique gifts will be displayed for the non-skaters who wish to help the Taylors realize their dream. No advance purchase is required. Simply show up, have fun, and know that you’ve done a good deed.

College Heights Baptist Church is hosting Grief Share on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. through April 12. If you have lost a loved one, you may have found that there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. That is the reason for GriefShare, a special seminar and support group for people grieving the loss of someone close. There is a $15 fee, which includes a workbook (scholarships are available).  For information and to register call Doris Birdwell at College Heights Baptist Church, 452-4952.

The Sumner Career Transition Group (SCTG) meets weekly on Tuesdays from 6 - 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Each week a different topic is covered. Programs focus on resume development, job searching techniques, interview skills, offer negotiations, networking and more. Individuals may join the group at any time since programs are not dependent on any prerequisite. The program is open to the public and is free of charge.

In addition to its regular offerings from African Hope Crafts®, Global Mamas® and 147 Million Orphans®, SAF will offer unique and handcrafted fair trade items from around the world All of the brands are nonprofit charities supporting women and families here and abroad.

American Legion Post 17 invites the public to join them in watching Super Bowl XLVI. Pre game starts at 5:30 p.m. Prize awarded for most outrageously dressed fan.
