Actors Point Theatre Company (APTC) has been named the Resident Theatre Company for Volunteer State Community College for the 2019 – 2020 season. This collaboration will include a 2019-2020 season of three of Actors Point’s Main stage productions performed in the Steinhauer-Rogan-Black Humanities Building’s Black Box Theater as well as in the Caudill Hall’s impressive Wemyss Auditorium.
“We are thrilled,” said Greg Wilson and founder of APTC, “Our arrangement with Volunteer State Community College affords tremendous opportunities for creating those types of hard-to-come-by, real-world experiences for theater students that can set them on a lifelong career path. In addition, the process of hiring theatre professionals to work with students on productions will increase interest in enrollment.
“A final plus is that this collaboration creates such a marvelous opportunity for Actors Point to continue its mission of adding to the cultural arts, entertainment and economic development of our community.”
In addition, APTC will work with professor Ben Graves, Performing Arts Department chair and professor Edmon Thomas to create structured, resume building opportunities where students can gain hands on experience in the production and presentation of major theatrical works and receive credits.
Special pricing for tickets will be available for students and faculty members for each production.
In fall 2019 and then again in spring 2020, Actors Point Theatre Company will host its “One–Day Student Theatre Challenge” on campus as well. Area middle and high school students – and now Vol State students – will meet on a Saturday morning, learn and produce a full production, promote the show, then perform the show that very same evening.
