Tom Atchley, with Hendersonville Utility District was awarded the 2019 Cecil Branstetter Legacy Award (TAUD Wall of Fame).
Atchley was nominated for this award by members of the awards committee. He began his 46 year career in the water and wastewater industry as owner of Professional Services Inc. He managed multiple projects, staff and locations at PSI.
He left the private sector after eight years beginning his work in the public sector with Lebanon Public Works. Atchley was recognized as APWA Man of the Year in 1999. That same year, he also began his career with Hendersonville Utility District as general manager. He made his mark in Hendersonville serving on the Forward Sumner Board, Industrial Development Board, Town Center Redevelopment task force, Regional Transportation Board, Three Star committee for the infrastructure in Sumner County, and Cumberland River Water Improvements Authority Board.
While Atchley was dedicated to HUD he was also instrumental in this association. He was elected to the TAUD Board of Directors in 2006 and has served as secretary, vice president and president to the board. He also served on the Association’s finance and budget, legislative, by-laws and retirement trustees committees. He was awarded the TAUD Allan Gill Leadership Award in 2015.
Now retired from the district, he and his wife Debbie enjoy spending time with their children Geoff and Sara and two granddaughters Olivia and Charley. He is a lover of all things Harley Davidson and enjoys traveling.
