The Hendersonville Endurance Athletic Team (HEAT) held the 15th annual Kids Triathlon at the Sumner County Family YMCA on a foggy Saturday morning, Aug. 3. The swim, bike and run event drew over 150 competitors, ranging from ages 6 to 15. The competition also included several entrants supported by Able Youth, a Nashville-based organization dedicated to helping children who use wheelchairs achieve their goals through athletics.

Prior to the triathlon, the competitors were classified into one of two age-based divisions, “Junior” and “Senior.” The Junior division consisted of children ages 6 through 10 while older children (ages 11 through 15) competed in the Senior division. The event distances varied by division, with the Junior division having three legs consisting of a 50-yard pool swim, a 2-mile bike ride and a 1-mile run. The Senior division distances included a 100-yard pool swim, a 2.4-mile bike ride and a 2-mile run. All swim legs were held in the YMCA’s outdoor pool while the bike and run legs were held on an adjacent parking lot and neighboring residential streets.
