The 5th annual Sumner County “Deck the Hulls” Christmas Boat Parade was held on Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville on Dec. 14. Thousands of spectators watched the parade on both sides of Drakes Creek from vantage points ranging from the starting line at Mallard Point Park to the turnaround point at Sanders Ferry Park.
“Tonight’s turnout was one of the largest that we have had since we started the parade,” said HolidayFest Director Lynda Evjen. “It just gets better every year.”
Sponsored by HolidayFest, this year’s parade featured a colorful fleet of 8 different boats, each adorned with holiday lights and decorations. The parade was emceed by Chris Rhatigan, who kept the crowd informed by providing information about the boats and their owners.
At the conclusion of the event, the participants were judged on originality, theme and creativity. The judges included HolidayFest President Larry Phillips, Hendersonville Chamber CEO/President Kathleen Hawkins, Alderman Russ Edwards, Alderman Peg Petrelli, realtor Kevin Williams and photographer Rick Murray.
The overall boat parade winner was “In Production,” captained by Michael Smith. The second-place winner was “Maristar,” skippered by Eric Burton, followed in third place by “Spectrum,” helmed by Jared Burlison.
Along with the parade, several food vendors served up warm drinks and tasty treats at both the Mallard Point and Sanders Ferry Park viewing locations.
