The global pandemic concerning the coronavirus or COVID-19 has taken a toll on all of us.

Whether we are scrounging to find toilet paper, hand sanitizer, or food on the shelves at our local grocery store, many have felt the effects of the unrivaled times we are experiencing.

Several businesses decided to close their doors due to the inability to bring in money, including eateries around town.

Locally owned Cafe 393 on Main Street in Hendersonville recently announced on their Facebook page; they would be closing their doors on Friday, March 20, at 2 p.m.

“Parting is such sweet sorrow,” they said on their page. “After much consideration and in the best interest of our employees and guests, we have decided to close the Cafe Friday at 2 p.m., temporarily.

“Cafe 393 is truly “your hometown cafe,” and our crew members are simply the best family we could have ever asked for,” they continued. “So many of you have become our extended family, and we cannot thank you enough for all the support you have given us these last two years. We promise we will be here for you for many more years to come. We are doing all we can for our staff and are anticipating closing until April 1 due to this pandemic. In the meantime, weimplore you to keep supporting local businesses.”

Cafe 393 is not the only local business struggling to bring in customers. Every business listed below cited that they are down at least 30-50 percent with customer traffic, and some believe that it is not getting better anytime soon, but that does not mean they have lost all hope.

“We are going at this with a positive outlook,” Lyncoya Cafe Co-Owner Alex Sommese said.Sommese adds that their business has cut their staff because they have had to and that she and Seth (Yeargan) are mostly running things right now.

“We are keeping orders tight and having a ton of to-go and delivery orders,” Sommese added. “We are here for the community, and we know the community has our back. We are generous people and are doing what we can to help with the notion that the same help will come back to us.”

Sanders Ferry Pizza & Pub Co-Owner Eddy Anderson said that he decided to do curb-side only service for the time being.

“We decided to do so due to the safety of our staff and our customers,” he told the Hendersonville Standard. “We believe in the community, and we cannot wait to get back to having guests in our building and enjoying a nice dinner out with their family. In the meantime, we believe keeping contact to a minimum is the best decision for everyone. It was not an easy decision to make, however. Ultimately, I decided to make because I have to think about the well-being of the people who work for me. I do not want to put anyone in jeopardy.”

Someone’s in the Kitchen owner Charlotte Valor says this is something she has never seen in her lifetime, but says through her faith in God she knows not only her, but other business will get through this as well.

“I just hope people continue to support local,” she said. “It is worrisome, but I trust in God that this will blow over. I do not know the answers or how it will end up, but I choose to get up every day and push forward.”

Now more than ever, our local establishments need your help to get through these trying times.

Below are locally-owned restaurants’ store hours, if they are running specials, and where you can visit them. You can visit each restaurant on their Facebook page for more information. Due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, all restaurants will not serve dine-in customers and are available for curb-side pickup, delivery, or over-the-phone orders.
