Tennessee’s Department of Health has led schools, programs and recreation departments to a safer form of play since the summer of 2017. Hendersonville has now joined their team by achieving the third recreation department position of representing the Safe Stars Initiative.
There are three statuses that may be obtained which are bronze, silver and gold. Hendersonville Parks proudly represents their gold statuswhich is their highest standard. This outstanding accreditation will be in effect in Hendersonville Parks for the next five years.
This would not have been achievable without the hard work of our Parks Department developing safety initiatives for our athletes and the cooperation from our coaches and parents. We hope this raises youth athletic safety awareness for all Hendersonville Parks sports and advocates a positive sportsmanship for each league.
The Safe Stars initiative is a collaboration between the state’s health department and Vanderbilt’s Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. Their goal is to provide resources and opportunities for every youth sports league to enhance their safety standards. The criteria for achieving recognition as a Safe Stars league has been developed by a committee of health professionals dedicated to reducing sports-related injuries among youth.
