Merrol Hyde Magnet announces Valedictorians, top scholars

Twenty-four seniors were honored recently at the Merrol Hyde Magnet School (MHMS) Top Scholars Banquet for having a 4.0 over four years of high school, and eight of which were designated as the Class of 2021 Valedictorians.

Every student at the dinner are student-athletes and have a perfect GPA.

Blake Butler, Joseph Rodriguez, Joshua Rodriguez, Seth Hemingway, Ashvin Kodali, Joshua Lynch, Drew Miller, and Caela Rewa all had a perfect GPA plus multiple extra points for the many Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement, and Honors courses taken.

“This is a very competitive class,” said MHMS Principal Darren Frank. “Top Scholars and Valedictorians have worked very hard over the course of four years to earn the honor and we are very proud of them.”

At the Top Scholars Banquet each student and their family members attended, along with the high school teacher each student designated as the most influential in their lives. The event is held each year at Bluegrass Golf & Yacht Club and is paid for by a sponsorship.

In addition to the honor, all MHMS valedictorians are awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Comprehensive Arthritis Care (CAC), one of Middle Tennessee’s leading rheumatology practices.

The Top Scholars and Valedictorians will attend colleges and universities from Alabama to Tufts, Vanderbilt to Washington U at St. Louis, and many others in between. The top scholars and valedictorians represent another stellar class at MHMS with four National Merit Finalists, a class ACT average of over 30, and approaching more than $10 million in scholarships offered.

Less than two percent of high school seniors in America graduate with a 4.0. Merrol Hyde Magnet School is a college-prep, academic, magnet school ranked first in the state and third in the nation by US News & World Report.
