Meta – formerly Facebook, recently announced the local data center in Gallatin is accepting applications for community action grants.

“Meta is proud to be a part of the Gallatin community, and we’re committed to playing a positive role and investing in the region’s long-term vitality,” said Tara Tenorio, community development manager with Meta. “We’re thrilled to introduce our data center community action grants to Sumner County, and we encourage local nonprofits and schools to apply.”

Qualifying agencies will include registered 501©(3) organizations and schools. Tenorio said schools are encouraged to notify the superintendent of their intended grants to ensure that the most competitive applications are submitted.

Community grants are available to projects that do one or more of the following things: Address critical community needs by putting the power of technology to use for community benefit, connect people online or off, and improve local science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

Each project must demonstrate metrics that can be publicly reported, Tenoria said. Grant recipients will be asked to provide a report on how the funds are being used and their impact in the community.

Tenoria said the amount of grant money received can vary, depending on the project applied for and its impact on the community. Recently examples of grants awarded in Huntsville, Ala., where Meta has a data center include Huntsville City Schools, which received $10,000 to support the development of a community STEM garden that connects the community together; the CAP & GOWN Project, which received $15,000 to enable transformative opportunities to pursue college for underserved secondary school students; and The Livin’ Room that received a $17,870 grant to provide new computers and projectors for training at the community center.

Applications are being received through Friday, Oct. 21. Grant winners will be announced in the spring of 2023. All grant funds must be used within one year after the award date.

With the exception of schools, which can apply for multiple grants, all other non-profits and organizations are limited to submitting one application per cycle.
