Station Camp DECA students, Chandler Phelps and Lydia Thompson, are taking on the 2016-2017 Creative Marketing Project, 'Inspiring to Include.'
'Inspiring to Include' will be hosting a special needs basketball game during halftime of the boys' home varsity game against Beech High School on the night of Dec. 2.
'Inspiring to Include' was created last year in order to bridge the gap between typically developing and special needs students in our community. This year's project focuses on Station Camp High School's inclusion with special needs.
Working in affiliation with a local non-profit, Project 22, it was discovered that the inclusion rates of typically developing students with special needs students in their non-profit is close to zero. Through research, 'Inspiring to Include' found that integration is limited in the high school setting in our community. In order to increase involvement with special needs individuals, 'Inspiring to Include' implemented a plan to both EDUCATE and INTEGRATE typically developing students with special needs individuals at Station Camp High School.
The basketball game will follow a day of events at Station Camp High School. For questions and more information about joining and/or helping with the game, please email schscspdeca@gmail.com.
