When it comes to generosity, Sumner residents are among the best.

Sumner County residents are among the most generous in Tennessee, according to a recent study from financial technology company SmartAsset.

The third annual “Most Generous Counties in the U.S.” report, which looked at tax data for all 95 counties statewide, found that Sumner was the seventh most overall charitable county in 2020.

“Our study measured locations on two primary factors: the amount of money residents donated as a percentage of their income, and the percentage of the population making charitable contributions,” SmartAsset spokesperson Steve Sabato said.

According to the report, Sumner County ranked tenth in terms of donations being made as a percentage of income and sixth in terms of the percentage of residents who made donations.

Overall, the study found that Williamson County residents were the most generous in the state. Shelby County came in second followed by Fayette, Hamilton, Davidson, Knox, Sumner, Loudon, Wilson and Madison.

Sabato also noted that Sumner ranked as the 716th most charitable county out of more than 3,000 nationwide.
