Rumors that Hollywood actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson are the secret buyers of Kelly Clarkson’s recently sold Hendersonville mansion aren’t true, according to realtor Jack Miller, who handled the $6.3 million sale last month.
Citing Hanks’ visit to a Goodlettsville typewriter repair shop in May and Wilson’s recent appearance on CMT, several around Hendersonville have repeated the rumor that the power couple could be the latest celebrities to buy a home on Old Hickory Lake.
Not so, says Miller, a broker with Stutts-Miller Properties at Parks Realty.
“The buyer is not Tom Hanks or anyone of a celebrity status,” said Miller. “They’re just a nice family from out of state.”
Miller negotiated the transaction in mid-June between a trust associated with Clarkson and buyers Rutland Shores, LLC, a limited liability company registered in Delaware.
The 20,121-square-feet home was first listed in March of 2017 for an astounding $8.75 million.
Clarkson, 39, and talent manager Brandon Blackstock bought the home from local developer and builder David Luckey and his wife Kim in the fall of 2012 for $2.86 million.
However, it wasn’t widely known that the two owned a home here until they married in October of 2013 and listed the Summit Lane address on their marriage license.
Situated at the end of a gated, wooded cul-de-sac on 4.2 acres along the lake, the seven-bedroom home features a home theater, a saltwater pool, private dock, sand volleyball court and two spas.
Miller said at the time of the home’s initial listing that Clarkson renovated the home from top to bottom when she bought it and expanded some of the home’s living spaces.
“This is not just another luxury home — it’s special,” he said.
The home’s asking price was reduced to $7.5 million in 2019, and again to $6.9 million earlier this year.
The home sold on June 18 for $6.3 million, according to a warranty deed filed in the Sumner County Register of Deeds office.
Miller said he had multiple offers in a one-week period.
When asked why there were so many offers after being on the market for four years, Miller said the price was finally right.
“It was just the right price point,” he said.
Luckey said he was still surprised that the home he built in 2007 sold for that price.
“I am surprised,” he said last week. “While we have some very expensive homes along the lake, there really aren’t the comps right now to support that.”
A multiple Grammy-award winner and host of her own television show, Clarkson has risen to become one of pop music’s biggest stars since becoming the first winner of the hit television show American Idol in 2002.
She filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020, citing irreconcilable differences.
