No injuries were reported in a fire that started in the kitchen area of Carnival Food & More on Monday evening.

According to Hendersonville Fire Chief Scotty Bush, the owner of the business that faces Walton Ferry Road but has a 247 West Main Street address, had returned just before 9:30 p.m. and noticed heavy black smoke coming from the building.

The call came into the county’s Emergency Communications Center at around 9:26 p.m., Bush said. Three engine companies, two fire trucks, and a division chief from Hendersonville Fire Stations 1, 2, 3 and 5 responded, and had the fire under control by 9:38 p.m., he added.

Bush said the fire was believed to have started in the kitchen area where fire department personnel were able to contain it. The fire chief estimates that the business sustained around $15,000 in smoke damage, however.

“There was not a whole lot of fire damage, but there was a significant amount of smoke damage,” the fire chief noted.

Bush declined to give an official cause of the fire until an investigator completed his report.

The business is closed until further notice, according to a Facebook post made by owner Jamie Browning on Tuesday.

Browning, whose business specializes in delicacies like funnel cakes and fried Oreos, labeled the blaze a grease fire.

He also asked the community for prayer and help.

“I have put a lot of time, a lot of money into this place,” he said tearfully in a video message. “I didn’t get no bank loans, this is all my savings. Everything has got to be replaced… I’m very sad right now… This is heartbreaking.”

A Gofundme page has been set up to help Browning’s business. For more information, go to www.gofundme.com/f/carnival-food-and-more-fire-damage?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customer
