The Hendersonville Garden Club hosted the Middle Tennessee Regional FFA Horticulture Career Development Event on March 12 at the Hendersonville Church of Christ Youth Center.
Over 40 FFA teams from all over Middle Tennessee trained for this contest with 160 students from 29 high school FFA Chapters fielding teams in Floriculture and Nursery Landscape.
This four-person team event is designed to create an interest in career preparation in all aspects of the floriculture and nursery landscape industry. Students identified over 100 plant specimens, tools, diseases and plant disorders, interpreted landscape designs, and solved problems related to the horticulture industry.
The Floriculture team activity consisted of teams designing a small wedding while the Nursery team activity involved estimating the design and repair of a rooftop garden damaged by the March 2, Nashville tornado.
The overall Middle Tennessee Regional Winner in Floriculture was Stewarts Creek FFA with runner up being Riverdale FFA Chapter. The Regional winner in Nursery Landscape was the Hendersonville FFA Chapter, with runner up being the Eagleville FFA Chapter.
Other schools participating were FFA Chapters from Oakland, East Robertson, Portland, Macon County, Cascade, Whitehouse Heritage, Cheatam County, Siegal, Lincoln County, Mt. Juliet, Watertown, Woodbury, Dickson County, Fayetteville City, Northwest, Station Camp and Bedford County.
The Hendersonville Garden Club would like to thank the Hendersonville Church of Christ, The Central Tennessee Florist Association, The Sumner County Master Gardeners, Foxes Pizza, Tri Green Equipment, Rachel Brown at Black Tie Florists and Events, The Animal Clinic, The Sumner County Wildflower association and the 40 volunteers who judged, helped serve lunch and provided help with this event.
