A Hendersonville man was arrested and charged Feb. 19 with aggravated rape of a child.
Local police were notified Feb. 17 by the Department of Children Services of alleged sexual abuse by 36-year-old Graham Hart of Skyview Drive, according to a police affidavit filed in Sumner County General Sessions Court.
The referral alleged the defendant had been sexually molesting a child younger than eight years old for more than a year.
When a Hendersonville police officer spoke to Hart, via telephone due to inclement weather, he admitted sexually abusing the child since Christmas of 2019, the affidavit states. Hart also stated he recently spoke with a therapist who advised him to report the incidents to DCS.
Hart is being held in the Sumner County Jail on a $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court at 9 a.m. on March 10. Hart has been ordered to have no contact with the victim or any other child under the age of 18.
Aggravated rape of a child is a Class A felony. If convicted, Hart could face a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
