Musson

Hendersonville Christian Academy is pleased to welcome Diane Musson to the upper school teaching team for the 2020-2021 school year.  She will lead upper school choirs, assist in leading special programs, and teach middle school English.

Musson was born in Idaho and grew up in a Christian home in Ogden, Utah, just north of Salt Lake City. From her first days in kindergarten, she knew she wanted to be a teacher; then in her senior year of high school, she became a teacher’s aide and was awarded a four-year college scholarship in education.

After graduating from Weber State University, she taught sixth grade for two years in the Ogden City Public School system. For her third year of teaching, Musson took advantage of the opportunity God presented to teach in a Christian school, one of the few in Utah at the time.

Since then she has taught all ages—kindergarten through high school—but found her niche with middle school students. During her 35+ years of teaching, she has taught reading, math, English, social studies, science, as well as developed and implemented a variety of classes to supplement the basic core curriculum: i.e. creative writing, music, choir, drama, home economics, computer applications, journalism. In 1991, she completed an MEd in math and English education at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.

Musson spent several years traveling the United States as an educational workshop speaker and was given the opportunity to gain more understanding and appreciation for differing personalities, backgrounds, and learning styles. One of her favorite workshops she titled Putting Fun in the Fundamentals in which she encouraged educators in making learning enjoyable.

However, she enjoys learning as much as she enjoys teaching and believes a love of learning can be contagious. She continually looks for opportunities to use her creativity and her enthusiasm for learning to influence young people to become life-long learners, and she desires to mentor those who will eventually take her place.

In December 2015, Musson resigned a writer/editor job to become the fulltime caregiver for her elderly parents, both of whom suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. After they had both passed away, she took some time to seek God’s direction for the next leg of her life’s journey, and He led her to HCA.

She has been married to Wayne Musson, Jr., for 39 years; they have one daughter, Katie. Together they have ministered at churches and schools in Utah, Kansas, Texas and Tennessee, where she often served as church pianist, organist, youth choir director and piano teacher.

Her favorite leisure activity is singing with her husband and daughter. As a family, they have attended the Ben Speer’s Stamps-Baxter School of Music (2010, 2011) and the Steve Hurst School of Music (2018, 2019).

Musson’s life verse is 3 John 4 – “I have no greater joy than to know that my children walk in truth.” She not only claims this verse for her daughter, but for her school “children” as well.
