Mr. Bob Sims of Hendersonville, TN passed away peacefully on September 5, 2020 at the age of 84.
Bob was born on October 16, 1935 in Fall Branch, TN to Lloyd Charles Sims and Virginia Sneed Sims. He was a kind and humble man that loved God, his family, and friends unconditionally. He was devoted to his loving wife and lifelong sweetheart, Helen Ruth Matheney Sims, and provided an incredible life for his family. Bob was a father figure to many who loved him and was a true example of a Christian and gentleman.
His early childhood was spent in Kingsport and Bristol, TN and he maintained his love for his East Tennessee roots throughout his life. He moved to Nashville where he graduated from East High School and played football for the 1951 championship team. It was here that he fell in love with Helen Ruth and they were married in 1955 in the chapel of Tulip Street United Methodist Church. In 1962 they moved to Hendersonville to raise their family and have been residents for the past 58 years. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 17 of this year.
Bob attended Tennessee Tech and the American Institute of Banking. He worked for the Federal Reserve Bank prior to dedicating his 35 year career to the printing industry. He was plant manager at Nashville Electrotype and Engraving and retired from the Printing Industry Association of the South where he was voted Man of the Year in 2000. Printing was in his blood and he considered all of his fellow printers as family.
He served 10 years in the Air National Guard and the Marine Corp Reserve and loved his country.
Bob and Helen Ruth joined the congregation of Hendersonville First United Methodist Church in in 1963 and have been lifelong dedicated members. They served as youth directors, Sunday school teachers and board members over the years.
He is survived by his wife, as well as, sons; Kevin Sims (Kym) and Kent Sims (Deanna); grandchildren Kamen Sims, Lucy Sims and Rob Pitt (Melissa); great-grandson Tristin Pitt; siblings Susie Sims Cook, Gene Sims, Richard Sims and Pat Sims; nieces Diane Daffron, Andrea Morriss and their families; cousins Joe Ann Ketron and Johnny Wright and extended family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Edward Sims.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Monday, September 14 from 4– 7 pm at Hendersonville First United Methodist Church, 217 East Main Street, Hendersonville, TN. A graveside Military Funeral will be officiated by Rev. Don Hutchinson on Tuesday, September 15 at Spring Hill Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN. Memorial donations can be made to Hendersonville First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
