William Andrew Kirby

William Andrew Kirby, 61, of Nashville, TN died unexpectedly on September 3, 2021 in Hermitage, TN.

William was born July 23, 1960 to parents Sophronia Long and Bruce Kirby. William graduated from Madison High School in 1978. After high school, William served in the tank division for the United States Army in Germany from 1981-1984. William then began his career at the United States Postal Service in 1985 as a letter carrier, and worked there for 35 years. During his time there, he served as a shop steward for the National Association of Letter Carriers. William had three daughters and four grandchildren who were the joy of his life.

William was a devoted father, brother, grandfather, and uncle. He loved to paint, create poetry, cook, and spend time with his friends and family. William loved being a letter carrier, and valued the friendships he made during his time with the Postal Service. He was well known and loved by the customers on his route. William was an outgoing, kind, caring man who never met a stranger.

William is survived by his three daughters, Amanda Kirby, Mary Lees (Jourdan), and Kayla Kirby; his siblings Allen Kirby (Faye), Randall Kirby, Crystal Long, and Cheryl Long; his grandchildren, Wyatt Kirby, Brayden Long, Brooklynn McLean, and Aiden Lees; and his nieces Veronica Ballard and Kendall Harwell.

William was preceded in death by his sister Rachel Browning, his father Bruce Kirby, his mother Sophronia Long, and his stepfather James Long.

A celebration of life is scheduled for September 16 at Godwhy Church in Hendersonville from 11:00am – 1:30pm. The celebration of life will be followed by a graveside service at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. William’s family requests the graveside service be reserved for family members. In lieu of flowers William’s family requests donations be made to the Nashville Rescue Mission in William’s name, as he was passionate about serving the homeless.
