Today I got to have a coffee with Kevin Stephens, owner of Kevin Stephens Interiors.

He is the kind of guy you want in your crew—he’s intelligent, kind, and he’s a former offensive and defensive lineman. Everyone needs one of those in their crew for when stuff gets real.

Kevin is a Hendersonville area native that played football and graduated from Hendersonville High School. He played college ball for a year at Cumberland University before becoming a devoted dad to his nine-year-old son.

His passion now has turned to coaching. He first discovered this passion when coaching the junior Commandos, and has honed his coaching style as he took gigs at Hawkins Middle and even helped coach his son’s Goodlettsville team to the championships two years ago.

Earlier this year, he relinquished his role as offensive coordinator for the HHS freshman team to take a job that he has dreamed about since he was a kid—the varsity team offensive coordinator at Station Camp High School. He’s excited to work with 12-year NFL veteran and Head Coach Brent Alexander and the rest of the program to help make the SCHS football team one that the community and school can be proud of.

If you ever take the time to chat with Kevin about why he does it, you’ll discover that he coaches the boys not only in football, but in friendships and life. Especially with the state of the world right now, I think that’s more important than ever. “Yeah, I may be tough on them and they may not like me sometimes, but real life is tougher.” Kevin tries to help mold them from young boys into men, at least for the short amount of time that he has them on the field.

When he’s not on the football field, Kevin creates custom interiors and upholstery for vehicles—namely, hot rods and classic cars. I guess you could say it’s in his blood. He worked in his family business in Nashville for almost five years before going out on his own two years ago.

His work is absolutely stunning and not at all what I was expecting when he told me he did upholstery work on cars. He has a great attention to detail and makes the interiors look super slick. But he won’t sacrifice the integrity of the car for the interior look. “I wouldn’t want to put a spaceship interior in a classic car.”

Make sure you take a look for yourself and give his Facebook page a follow: or give him a call if you have any projects coming up you’d like to discuss: 615-582-3650.

Kevin - it was great to catch up with you and I’m glad to have gotten to know you a little bit better. Thanks for making sure these kids have their heads screwed on straight and for being one of my 100 Cups of Coffee!
