November may warm up after cold start

The first snow flurries of the season were reported in Middle Tennessee on Halloween and then temperatures dropped into the 20s over the weekend.

There is nothing quite so drastic in the forecast for the week ahead with high temperatures mostly in the 50s to low 60s. We continue to have that cold front coming around Nov. 8 and another rain system is expected around Nov. 11.

As an example of how volatile November can be, the worst winter storm on record in Middle Tennessee in early November occurred on Nov. 2-3, 1966. Cookeville recorded 15 inches of snow, Woodbury had 13 and Nashville had 7 inches.

On the other hand, Nov. 5, 2018, brought nine tornadoes to Middle Tennessee with one fatality in Rutherford County.

Rain totals across the Midstate last Thursday and Friday averaged 1 to 3 inches.
