On Saturday, July 31, the Bluegrass Country Club honored the memory of its long-time member Boots Scott. Boots was a member of Bluegrass for 48 years. Boots passed away in 2019. Over 100 friends and family of Boots gathered at the memorial erected at Bluegrass in his honor. Boots was a long-time sports figure in the area winning many golf and basketball awards. The loves of his life were his family and his vocation of teaching and coaching at both Hawkins Middle and Beech High School for 28 years. The children of Sumner County were fortunate to have Coach Scott as their mentor and role model.

Chuck Conner and Eddie Roberson made remarks at the dedication. Mayor Clary presented a “Proclamation” honoring the memory of Boots. Chuck Conner, President of the Board, stated “that while Boots was known far and wide for his athletic achievements, it was his friendship with all he met and his love of youth sports that makes this honor appropriate.” Eddie Roberson, Vice President of the Board, stated that “Boots had the gift of hospitality and this memorial will ensure that Boots’ memory will endure and hopefully instill the high ideals of sportsmanship, and friendship he regularly practiced.

His daughter Julie Scott Barnard, speaking for the family, closed the ceremony by thanking the club and community for honoring her late father. She stated that he would be so thankful for the tribute and that the family will never forget this special day.
