A 19-6 first quarter advantage for the Buccaneers catapulted Beech High School to a 7-2 start to the season Friday night as they defeated host Wilson Central 66-43. 

Junior Kaleb Powell and senior Jyqual Matthews each scored 18 points to lead their team while  sophomore Andrew Paige added 17.

The Bucs carried a 34-17 lead into the locker room before outscoring the Wildcats 32-26 in the final 16 minutes. 

Beech, now 2-0 in District 9-AAA play, secured eight offensive rebounds for six second chance points and forced Wilson Central into 15 turnovers for 14 points. 

The Bucs will be back in action for their annual Christmas tournament Dec. 19 when they play Riverdale at 4:00 p.m.

The Lady Bucs used a furious second half rally Friday night on the road to pick up a key District 9-AAA victory over Wilson Central. 

Beech senior Deshiya Hoosier led her team with 20 points scored while three other teammates scored in double figures. 

The 62-56 victory for Beech improves the team to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Trailing at halftime 30-27, Beech outscored the Lady Wildcats 16-12 in the third quarter for the 45-42 advantage. 

In the fourth quarter Beech tallied 19 points, including an impressive 10-for-12 performance from the charity stripe to seal the win. 

The Lady Bucs will be back in action on Dec. 20 at 2:30 in their annual Christmas Tournament against the winner of Harpeth Hall vs. Cane Ridge.
