9th win in a row for Lebanon -
LEBANON – Blue Devil sophomore guard Corey Jones drained a deep 3-pointer with 1:43 remaining in regulation to push his team over the top in Lebanon's hotly-contested 56-53 win over District 9-AAA rival Station Camp Friday at Campbell Brandon Gymnasium.
The contest was tied seven times in the second half as neither team could distance itself from the other.
Coach Jim McDowell's Blue Devils stretched their winning streak to nine consecutive games and improved to 15-7 on the season and 11-5 in 9-AAA, locking up fourth place a first round home game in the Feb. 19 tournament opener versus No. 5 Wilson Central.
“Station Camp was playing for a regular season district championship tonight,” McDowell said. “Knowing where we were a month ago, to come out and play this way to way down the stretch is something special.”
Lebanon led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bison went on a 14-8 second period run to take a 25-24 lead at intermission.
“They really pounded us on the offensive boards in the first half,” McDowell said. “I just challenged our guys to get on the glass and we did a much better job of that in the second half.”
Another back and forth period ensued as Lebanon's Yarin Alexander beat the third quarter buzzer with a 15-footer from the left elbow to give his team a scant 38-36 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
Bison guard Tyler Moore scored 11 points over the final eight minutes, including a basket at the 3:56 mark that gave his team a 44-43 lead, another bucket at 3:05 to tie the game at 46-all and yet another score to push Station Camp ahead 48-46 with 2:40 to play.
LHS sophomore Jarred Hall led all scorers with 21 points, including a dramatic tip-in of a missed shot by Alexander with 51.3 seconds left that gave his team a 54-50 advantage.
Alexander had 12 points for the Blue Devils while Jones added 10 off the bench – including a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Moore led the Bison with 14 and Eli Rice added 13 and Isiah Davis scored 11 points as Station Camp slipped to third place in the district with a record of 12-4, 20-6 overall.
The Bison will entertain rival No. 6-seeded Gallatin in a Friday quarterfinal game. The winner advances to the semifinals Saturday and earns a berth in the Region 5-AAA tournament.
