HENDERSONVILLE - The Pope John Paul II Knights baseball team earned two wins at their annual ServPro Classic this past weekend, taking wins over DC Choctaos and Dickson County on Friday night and Saturday.
The Knights dropped their first two games in the Classic to Clarksville Academy and Franklin Academy by a combined score of 14-7.
In their two wins (5-4, 9-3) JPII collected 23 hits for a combined 14 runs. Against Choctaos, the Knights won in walk-off fashion thanks to a single to end the game from Dominic Pianto to right field, scoring Oliver Gould and Robert Carroll to take a 5-4 win.
Leading 3-2, DC Choctaos hit an inside-the-park home run, scoring Ethridge and McCord for the 4-3 advantage in the top of the seventh inning.
Dominic Pianto led the team with four hits while Pianto and David Hobbs each recorded two base hits.
Trey Holt, Deuce Drennan, Jayden Young and Robert Carroll also collected hits for the Knights while Pianto led the team with two RBIs.
Against the Dickson County Cougars, the Knights claimed an early 4-1 lead and never looked back scoring one more run in the second and multiple runs in the third and fourth innings for the 9-3 win.
Jayden Young led the team with two RBIs and three hits, while Parker Juillerat added two hits, two runs and one RBI.
The team will be on the road at MBA next Wednesday for the first game of a three-game series.
