HENDERSONVILLE - The Lady Knight soccer team continued their positive preseason momentum Monday night dominating John Overton High School 7-1 on the soccer pitch.

“We are just trying to build on our two previous scrimmages and I thought we did that tonight,” head coach Zack Trobaugh said. “The biggest thing is we want to get in a rhythm on the ball. We are trying to teach the girls how we want to create and play, and what we are looking for defensively. I thought we started sloppy but we progressed and played much better in the second half.”

Leading 5-1 at halftime following goals from Ava Priest (2), Cruz Grinolds, Scout Chaffin and Mary Grace Foulke, Trobaugh wanted his girls to continue to put pressure on the offensive side of the pitch.

“One thing we are trying to do is make ourselves as much of a threat as possible,” he said. “If we need to play more direct and with pace then we can do that, if we need to combine more and create an overload we can do that. If we can do that we will be a challenge. We have the speed, ability and size up top so if we can add those things we will be a challenge for any team.”

Defensively the Lady Knights were sound, limiting the Bobcats to just four chances all game and one goal.

“I thought they played fine,” Trobaugh said. “We start our build up from the back line so we depend on them a lot. I thought they did a good job of that. They will get tested more as the season goes on but today was a good base for them. We put a lot on their shoulders and I thought they handled it pretty well.”

JPII will be back in action against CPA on Thursday, August 15 at 7:00 p.m.
