The boys and girls TSSAA golf state tournaments are being held in Sevierville this week.

Class A and Division II-A are being held Monday and Tuesday at Sevierville Golf Club. Class AA and Division II-AA will play Thursday and Friday at the same location.

Here are highlights from the local leaders in Class A and Division II-AA.

GIRLS

Class A

Gordsonville senior and Ole Miss commitment Sophie Linder shot a 7-under 63 and Summertown’s Karlie Campbell posted 4-under 66 in one of the most entertaining championship races of the day.

The two players dueled for last year’s title too with Linder, competing as an individual, claiming the title by a shot. She made eight birdies and one bogey Monday in her quest for a fourth consecutive championship.

Campbell birdied three of the final four holes to remain close.

Campbell was the only other player under par, leading Summertown to a seven-shot lead in the team competition. The Lady Eagles scored 4-over with Libby Konig (8-over 78, seventh place) and Ella Busby (10-over 80, t-eighth) both cracking the top 10.

Division II-A

Three Midstate players are atop the leaderboard led by Battle Ground Academy’s Bella Bugg, who made just one bogey to shoot 2-under 68 for the sole lead.

Providence Christian’s Isabella Johnson (4 over) is six shots behind in second place and Webb School’s Boonchita Sriwongngam (5 over) is third.

BGA ended the day 7 over as a team to take a five-shot lead over last year’s champion Providence Christian. Carolina Pardue, who helped Providence clinch the 2021 title in a playoff, is 8 over in a tie for seventh individually.

Six of the top 11 players on the leaderboard hail from the Midstate, including USN’s Katherine Vaughn (8 over) and BGA’s Jackie Henderson (9 over).

BOYS

Class A

Summertown’s Jason Cole Campbell leads the field by six shots after firing a 6-under 66. His round included eight birdies and an impressive string of five over six holes.

The next closest Midstate competitor is Merrol Hyde’s Porrsche Bryant (4-over 76) in a tie for ninth place.

Division II-A

Battle Ground Academy’s Eliot Brashear shot 1-over 73 to emerge with a one-shot lead over a crowded group of challengers.

Ten players are within four shots of first place including Franklin Road Academy’s William Webb (5 over), BGA’s Harry Brown (5 over), and Webb School’s Andrew Reeves (6 over) and Elijah Brown (6 over).

Brown and Leo Froio (6 over) helped bring BGA into second place at 24 over, five shots behind CAK.
