HENDERSONVILLE — The T.W. Hunter Middle School Lady Buccaneers captured the Sumner County Middle School Tournament Tuesday night, taking down the top-seeded Lady Wave, 6-4 in five complete innings.

Abigail Thompson picked up the win in the circle, hurling five complete innings, surrendering five hits and four runs on 58 pitches.

Kaylor West led the Bucs at the plate, collecting two hits while teammate Deering added two RBI.

Hunter jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the first on runs from Ce’mya Gregory and Hayleigh Deering.

The two teams traded three up, three down for the next two innings before Gallatin tied the game at two on a double from Bailey Daughtry and a Lady Bucs defensive error to play Makenna Whetstone.

Tied at four heading into the top of the fifth, Hunter scored Kiersten Romines from a Deering single to right field and a Olivia S shot to shortstop on a defensive error.

Prior to their win over Gallatin in the final, TW Hunter bested Portland Middle School, 1-0.

Before the championship game, players from across Sumner County were honored for their dedication, hard work and persistence with All-County selections.
