Volunteer State Community College has hired Jim McGuire as its head baseball coach.
McGuire served as Middle Tennessee State University head coach from 2012-2018, compiling a 162-175-1 record in six seasons. He started his Blue Raider coaching career in 1993 as assistant and associate head baseball coach before receiving his promotion.
McGuire has recently served as Director of Baseball Operations for Hit after Hit Baseball Academy in Nashville.
He was inducted into the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2020.
“Jim will be a great addition to our baseball program and athletic department as a whole,” said Vol State Athletic Director Bobby Hudson. “He has ties with high school coaches, four-year coaches and players in the Middle Tennessee area and southeast. We had more than 100 applicants for the position and the committee had a tough decision to make because of the quality of applicants. We felt that with Jim’s experience and knowledge, he would be a great fit for the job.”
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Management degree from Cumberland University and an Associate of Science degree from Rend Lake College in Ina, IL.
McGuire replaces departed head coach Ryan Hunt who took over the Cumberland University baseball program in April following his father Woody Hunt’s retirement.
