Summer begins next Tuesday, June 21 but it is sure going to feel like summer this week with heat and humidity, and a few pop-up thunderstorms from time to time.

A couple of things stand out about our weather over the next 14 days. This week we have several days with showers and thunderstorms likely with the middle and late portion of the week most likely to be wet.

Temperatures will be climbing from the low 80s that started the week to the low 90s by Thursday and Friday. There could be pop-up showers Wednesday and Thursday afternoon but only 30% and up to 50% for the weekend.

It is going to feel like summertime across Middle Tennessee this week with afternoon highs 88 to 92 degrees, which will be near-record levels for this time of year.

After low temperatures in the upper 30s again Wednesday morning and a little frost, I do not see any more freezing temperatures but sometimes we will see a light scattered frost into the first or second week of May.

This is an interesting week for temperatures in our area. After area gardeners dealt with frost Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, temperatures will be hitting 80 degrees by Friday and Saturday.

We can sum up the week ahead with unsettled and warm. Afternoon highs will be in the 70s and there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms on five of the next six days.

After the freezing temperatures that we have just experienced at night, a rapid warming trend will be with us for much of the week ahead with temperatures topping out at 80 degrees on Wednesday.

Spring has arrived but after being in the 60s through Wednesday, another cool spell is coming from Thursday through Sunday with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s.

The winter storm of this past Friday night brought the heaviest March snowfall totals to Tennessee that we had seen since the blizzard of 1993.

I am expecting us to receive more rainfall this week than we received during the first 20 days of February. It appears that 2 to 4 inches or more is possible by Friday.

We are halfway through the month of February and temperatures and precipitation have been pretty close to average, but it is looking like the second half of February will bring warmer temperatures and an increase in rainfall.

There is something for everyone in our forecast this week. After starting out sunny and warmer, Wednesday and Thursday will bring a large rain system that may put down two to four inches of rain across Tennessee.

We just had our third winter storm of the season and now it looks like the coldest weather of the winter is coming beginning at the end of this week and lasting through the end of January.

Pretty incredible numbers on the temperatures for December — we finished with one of the mildest-ever with numerous record highs and it even continued on New Year’s Day with a record high.
